Information we collect
We collect only the information needed to run our online menu, take pickup orders, and keep you informed about them.
- Account information: Your name, email address, password (stored only in hashed form by our authentication provider), and any profile details you choose to add. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name and email address from that provider; we never see your Google or Apple password.
- Order information: The products you reserve, quantities, prices, applied deals or promo codes, order status, and pickup history.
- Messages: Messages you exchange with our staff about an order.
- Notification subscriptions: If you enable push notifications, your browser gives us a device subscription endpoint and encryption keys so we can deliver notifications to that device. We do not receive your phone number or contacts.
- Technical information: Session cookies needed to keep you signed in, your display preferences (such as light or dark mode), and standard server logs such as IP address, browser type, and pages requested.
How we use your information
- Create and secure your account and keep you signed in.
- Process, prepare, and hand off your pickup orders.
- Send order updates and, if you opted in, notifications about your orders, deals, and store announcements.
- Respond to your messages and support requests.
- Verify that customers meet the legal age requirement and comply with California cannabis regulations, including record-keeping requirements.
- Prevent fraud and abuse, and maintain and improve our services.
How we share information
We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
We share information only with service providers that help us operate the app—such as our hosting, database, and authentication providers, and the browser push services that deliver notifications to your device. These providers may process your data only on our behalf and under appropriate confidentiality and security obligations.
We may also disclose information when required by law, regulation, or a valid legal request, including requests from state cannabis regulators, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of The Ounce, our customers, or others.
Push notifications
Push notifications are always optional. You can turn them off at any time from your profile page or in your browser or device settings. When you turn them off, we delete the subscription for that device.
Cookies
We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and to remember your cart and display preferences. We do not use third-party advertising cookies. Blocking essential cookies may prevent you from signing in or placing orders.
Data retention
We keep account information while your account is active. Order records are retained for as long as required by California cannabis regulations and other applicable laws. When information is no longer needed, we delete or anonymize it.
Security
We protect your information with encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and access controls that limit order and customer data to authorized staff. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password and let us know right away if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.
Your privacy rights
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the CPRA, gives you the right to:
- Know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose.
- Request access to or a copy of your personal information.
- Request correction of inaccurate information.
- Request deletion of your information, subject to records we must keep by law.
- Not be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights.
Age restriction
Our products and services are intended only for adults 21 years of age and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 21. If we learn that we have, we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above, and for material changes we will notify you in the app or by email.
